Well the training is going well! Friday night was a wash out, after 5 miles I had to give in to the rain as I couldnt see anything!! Cycling in heavy rain with glasses does not mix too well.
Saturday evening we were off out to Cheltenham to meet up with some University friends so I did a slightly shorter route than planned, still 16.45 miles though in 1 hour 20 mins which isnt too bad. Today I wanted to do a similar distance, however due to the extream winds we are currently facing and the fact that there is a lot of debris on the roads from the downpours this morning I kept it short at 6.3 miles. It might also have something to do with the tiredness from a lack of sleep from last night!
The bike feels good, I am still tweeking the gears slightly every couple of rides, but I think that is more to dow ith the new cables stretching, and I am over compensating on the adjustments, but all in all it is going very well. I now feel like I could tackle the 26 mile bikeathon without an issue, the only problem is I am in the 52 mile bikeathon!!
My aim this coming week is to do a minimum of 5 miles a day- but it will most likely be somewhere around 6-8 miles hopefully. Next weekend I am planning on cycling from Farnham to Godalming via Guildford, for some lunch before heading back again. It is a 30 mile ride, with a climb of 1600 feet planned. Comparing the climb to the London Bikeathon 52 mile route of 1134 feet I might be over training on the climbs but that cant be a bad thing!
As always please take the time to sponsor me. Tom Brown has pledged to donate 20pence per TRAINING mile. Since that promise I have completed just under 40 miles, so a solid £8-00 there. Seeing donations come in is a real motivator for continuing the training and getting to a stage where I will be able to complete the 52 mile route in 3 weeks time so please keep them coming in!
