30 things to do before I'm 30

I entered my 30th year recently and like many people staring the big 30 in the face got thinking about what I've accomplished so far in life. Looking back, I've not done too badly. I've been travelling, I've seen sunrise over Angkor Wat and I've jumped out of a plane at 12,000 feet and lived to tell the tale.

However, there are many things on my list that I haven't done yet, several of which I really should have got round to before reaching 30. Things like driving a car, learning to dive and going to Glastonbury.

One of my life goals is to raise £250,000 for cancer charities as this is what it cost, more or less, for me to have my life-saving bone marrow transplant and be given a second chance at life.

To help me reach this target and feel a little better about turning 30, I’ve decided to set myself the challenge of raising £30,000 by doing a series of fundraising challenges before my 30th birthday on 7th October 2014.

The challenges range considerably in terms of difficulty from baking a cake and taking part in a beetle drive (I currently have no idea what one of these is) to climbing Kilimanjaro and meeting 30 other people called Andy Jackson.

Here's the list in full:

1. Learn to drive

2. Visit a continent I haven’t yet been to (Africa or South America)

3. Bake a cake

4. Watch the top 30 films of all time

5. Grow a real beard

6. Walk part of Hadrian’s Wall

7. Go to an away Arsenal European game

8. Learn to dive

9. Perform a poem at Rhymes with Orange

10. Take part in a beetle drive

11. Read 30 books

12. Take part in a week of fasting

13. Take part in the London Bikeathon

14. Be an extra in a movie

15. Run the Berlin Marathon

16. Take a penalty against a professional goalkeeper

17. Learn a musical instrument

18. Have won £10 or more on the National Lottery

19. Climb Kilimanjaro

20. Meet the Queen

21. Learn to say hello in 10 languages

22. Go up in a hot air balloon

23. Write a book

24. Go to Glastonbury

25. Attempt a Man vs Food Challenge

26. Meet 30 other people called Andy Jackson

27. Climb a mountain at sunrise

28. Have 30,000 followers on Twitter

29. Bulk up to have a body like Ryan Gosling’s (girlfriend’s request)

30. Raise £30,000 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research

As you can see from the list, some of the challenges are more achievable than others, and in all honesty, I don’t think I’ll be able to achieve all of them in the time-span.

However, having suffered a health complication recently, I am even more determined to make the most out of life and will not stop until we've beaten blood cancer. To ensure I get as many done as possible, I will personally donate £100 for every one of the challenges I don’t complete.

The one challenge on the list that I don't want to fail is raising the £30,000 to help beat blood cancer so please give generously!
