Community cycle ride raises money to beat blood cancer

On a very sunny Sunday 17 July, the 36th annual Napton Cycle Ride took place and we’re delighted to say that this year Bloodwise was one of three charities chosen to be supported by the event.

The 2016 Napton Cycle Ride saw a record 450 participants turn out to cycle the 18 miles, which started and finished at Napton Village Green and passed through the villages of Upper and Lower Boddington, Claydon and Priors Martson.

The family friendly ride had the support of local pubs along the route that provided much needed pit stops for all riders and also saw a celebratory BBQ and live music party for all the participants and villagers after the  event.

Alongside Macmillan Cancer Support and the local church, St Lawrence, Bloodwise was supported by the cycle ride due to the tragic loss of Napton cyclist Kate Vanloo in January of this year. Kate was a keen supporter of Bloodwise and in her memory, the Napton Cycle Ride committee chose to raise money to help beat blood cancer.

The Chair of our Heart of England Branch, Anne Oliver, attended the event on behalf of Bloodwise and had the privileged job of manning the starting horn, sending all 450 riders on their way! A total of £898.92 has been donated to Bloodwise from the event and we would like to say a massive thank you to all the organising committee and to everyone who took part. With your help, we will beat blood cancer.
