Author Rosie Thomas attends Cowbridge Book Festival Evening

Followers of the Cowbridge Book Festival were treated to a really enlightening presentation, last Friday, when award winning author Rosie Thomas made a guest appearance at the United Free Church. Not only is Rosie a great writer and story teller she is also a very articulate speaker and she quickly engaged with the large responsive audience who were clearly captivated by this very impressive woman.

She told how after her first few novels she realized that she needed to change her life to seek out new experiences for inspiration and so she turned to travel and became an avid mountaineer - climbing the Eiger on her 60th birthday. She has worked in Antarctica competed in the Peking to Paris car rally and most recently sailed the southern ocean from the Falklands to South Georgia and then crossed the island in the footsteps of Shackelton.

All this travel has stood her in good stead. It can be no surprise that Rosie has such a loyal following, her many adventures have provided her with material for a great variety of story lines frequently based in exotic locations and described in such detail to the delight of her readers.

After the presentation and a lively Q & A session attendees had the chance to purchase signed copies of Rosie’s latest book The Illusionists and enjoy a chat and a glass of wine with the author.

The Cowbridge Book Festival have been long term supporters of LLR and in 2013 raised a fantastic £2400 for the charity.  We are so pleased that they have decided to support us again in 2014 and look forward to all the activites they have planned.
