As Christmas is fast approaching, here in the Edinburgh office we’ve been thinking about some easy ways for our supporters to raise money to beat blood cancers in the run up to the big day itself.
Here are some of the ideas we’ve been talking to supporters about.
Mulled wine and mince pie evening
This is a simple idea that lots of people already organise with friends and family or for parents at their children’s school. You could charge for tickets to cover the cost of the refreshments with a little extra to raise some money for us.
Consider a blind tasting of mince pies from a range of retailers, ranging from an inexpensive to a more luxury product. Ask friends to donate £2 to have a guess and give the winner a bottle of mulled wine!
Give as you Live
This is an excellent scheme that allows you to do your Christmas shopping online and raise money to beat blood cancer at the same time!
Give as you Live is a shopping and price comparison website with a heart. You can shop for products from 3,667 leading online retailers (including Amazon, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, and Sainsbury’s) and Give as you Live will donate a percentage of what you spend to us. It's completely free to use and only takes a couple of minutes to sign up. You can use it all year round too!
Why not share the scheme on Facebook and Twitter to spread the word about this amazing way to shop?
Christmassy film and pamper evening
Rather than heading out in the dark of a cold winter’s evening, invite friends over for a Christmassy film and pamper evening! Simply donate what you would normally pay for a night out – your cinema ticket, popcorn, maybe a meal – to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and we’ll put it to good use for our life-saving research.
The contact details of your nearest fundraiser can be found on our Local Fundraising page if you’d like to talk more with them about any of these ideas, or others. We would love to hear from you!
P.S. Edinburgh gift wrapping stall
Our wonderful volunteer, Emma Blaikie, is running a gift wrapping stall at the St James Centre in Edinburgh on Thursday 4 December between 10am and 9pm. Emma works for John Lewis in the Centre and the store has kindly donated all the wrapping paper for us! All we need now are willing volunteers to help us man the stall. If you would like to be involved, email Kirsty.
