Derbyshire bowlers raise over £4,400 to beat blood cancer

Following the sad passing of a much loved friend to blood cancer and the subsequent diagnosis of their county president with leukaemia, the Derbyshire Bowling Federation decided to set up and hold an annual fundraising competition, ‘The Tear Drop Trophy’, to raise money to beat blood cancer.

The Tear Drop Trophy sees the Derbyshire ladies compete against the Derbyshire men and has run every July since 2014. Over the last three years of competition, the Derbyshire Bowling Federation have raised a fantastic £4,488.45.

2014: £1,411.50
2015: £1.084.95
2016: £1,992.00

The teams raise money through sponsorship, the sale of lovely cream teas and a tombola to name just a few of their fundraising activities.

Louise Dawson from the Bloodwise Midlands Regional Team visited the club in Derby last Saturday to meet with Lesley (pictured) and Gary Owen and all the club members who are involved in making the competition such a success.

Louise says: ‘It was a pleasure to be able to meet the Derbyshire Bowling Federation as they have shown such fantastic support to Bloodwise over the last few years. We are truly grateful for their continued efforts in raising money to beat blood cancer and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who is involved.’
