When the Wisbech Players director Barbara Mews saw a performance of the stage adaption of ‘Calendar Girls’ during the Chichester festival in 2008. She knew straight away that it was something that she would love to direct.
So as soon as it was released for amateurs to perform, she was delighted to be asked to direct the play for The Wisbech Players. Finally in autumn of last year the Wisbech Players held several sell out performances of their version of the Calendar Girls at the Angles Theatre. The society's ‘Calendar Girls’ cast also posed for a calendar which was sold during the show's run and in addition a raffle was held at each performance. The proceeds raised £704.90 which was presented to Andy Fuller, Chairman of the Spalding & Bourne Branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, on Tuesday 9th April.
Barbara commented that the whole team of cast and crew bonded so well from such an inspiring play and where delighted to be able to help support and raise funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
