The Calendar Girls advice about baking....’if it’s a special event buy it from M&S’ is now immortalised on products which they today launched at Leeds M&S.
The daring ladies also revealed a new calendar for 2012, featuring a new nude front-cover photograph depicting them around a piano singing ‘Jerusalem’.
The new calendar and range of products will raise money for blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and are on sale through the charity’s website shop - and at theatres around the country as the stage show based on their remarkable story tours the UK.
Despite professing the need for "considerably bigger buns" none of tastefully cheeky new merchandise - which includes t-towels, bags, aprons, badges and mugs - needed to be strategically placed.
Miss February Angela Baker says: "I like to think the products reflect the spirit of the Calendar Girls - tastefully cheeky! I’ll be wearing the apron at home but I have to say I always follow Calendar Girls baking advice and go to M&S if it’s a special occasion!"
It was the tragic loss of Angela Baker’s husband John from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which inspired Angela and her friends to make the first ‘nude’ calendar in support of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. The women hoped the sale of the original calendar would raise enough money to buy a sofa for the local hospital where John was treated.
The Girls, famous for their saying "I have never had a problem with age, age has only ever had a problem with me" have been sensational fundraisers for more than 10 years, raising over £3million for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. The charity, which is close to their hearts, is dedicated to saving lives by funding leading UK research into better treatments and cures for all blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
