Charlotte Parr (6) - will join Beefy on Friday 20 April in Cambridge
Charlotte Parr was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in the summer of 2008, aged three, after returning from a family holiday where she’d had a swollen tummy and little appetite. Referred to Addenbrookes Hospital, Charlotte underwent weeks of tests as doctors decided how to treat her rare form of the disease.
The six months of intensive chemotherapy that followed was an anxious time for the family but Charlotte responded well and was in remission until her birthday in July 2009, when she relapsed. Needing an immediate bone marrow transplant to save her life, Charlotte spent eight weeks in Great Ormond Street Hospital, but fortunately the operation was a success and she started school in May 2010.
Mum, Suzie, said: “The whole family are coming on the walk and we want to say thank you to Sir Ian for all the fundraising he’s done. Without him research wouldn’t be where it is today, and it’s vital. From our experience there’s still so much to find out."
