Choosing the choices that matter

As well as being a proud trustee of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, I have a day job as a leadership coach and consultant. This week has been busy with coaching sessions and contacts with eight really talented individuals. In each case, our conversations and emails have focused on making the difficult choices - to take a big risk and go for a job that will challenge and stretch; to have the difficult conversation with someone senior when it would be much easier to keep a low profile or; to persist and do even more when other people are ready to change course or pull back.

For me this is what leadership is all about. They are the real conversations that make me come alive when people are talking about things that really matter to them. My week has been topped by a lovely reunion of the 2013 London-Paris Unstoppables team. What a great night with a whole bunch of leaders, each with their own inspiring story and united by  a shared  ambition. It was after 1 am before I got to bed this morning with an early start but the energy generated by last night helped to fuel me through the day.

Now it's two week holiday and some more tough choices. Take care
