Christmas past, present and future

Christmas is my absolute favourite time of the year, with so many different traditions that I try and uphold and pass on to my children. I’m a huge fan of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’: the journey that Ebeneezer Scrooge takes in that one evening and then what Christmas means to him after that is so fascinating. I want so much for the story to continue, so that we can see how Ebeneezer’s life changes in the future.

Each year as we approach Christmas I wait with great anticipation for the John Lewis Christmas advert. I’m never disappointed and like in previous years, after watching the advert I had a tear in my eye and a smile on my face. They seem to have the emotional balance just right and it’s very much about people and the important things in life.

I’m a great believer in buying and sending Christmas cards. The world has changed a lot with the explosion of social media, but I find the simplicity and personalisation of sending a card far outweighs modern technology. My team at Bloodwise is responsible for our online Christmas shop and it’s always rewarding to hear the conversations once our catalogue has landed. We’ve got some really great gifts again this year and a huge selection of Christmas cards – why not take a look at our complete range?

On top of all this, we also have our Christmas with the Stars event at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday 8 December. This year it includes Patrick Doyle, Anne Reid, Lee Mead and the a Capella group ‘Cantabile’, to name but a few. This event is sure to get you in the festive mood with readings, songs and carols a-plenty – tickets are selling quickly so buy yours now for a truly festive evening.

Christmas can evoke so many memories for us all as we celebrate the season in different ways with family and friends. It’s a time to remember loved ones and share special moments with those who we hold dear. However you’re spending it this year, I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year.
