In no particular order, the Corporate Fundraising Team chooses some highlights of 2014

1 Light The Night and the Dragon Boat Race

Our second year of Light The Night proved a successful one, as we launched new fundraising activities and events. Eight boats full of Light The Night supporters battled it out in Middle Dock Canary Wharf, with the fastest boat taking just over 1 minute to complete the 250m course – true dragon boat professionals! Along with quizzes, auctions and some very interesting dance offs, Light The Night 2014 will have beaten last year, raising £250,000.

2 New faces in the corporate team

Over the course of 2014 we have expanded our team and welcomed a whole host of new faces to the team. We’re now a full team with a great mix of experience in the corporate and charity sectors.

3 Wickes, Wickes, Wickes

Over the August bank Holiday weekend Wickes colleagues up and down the country took on the challenge of cycling around the world. They each had an exercise bike in store and cycled all day every day for four days – they made it round the world and half way round again to raise a staggering £75,000!

This year Wickes also launched a cause related marketing campaign to sell red products including a wheelbarrow and bucket donating a percentage of the profits to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. So far Wickes have raised well over £100,000. Look out for next years red products coming to a Wickes store near you in 2015.

4 Frankie and Benny’s

Frankie & Benny’s threw themselves into a whirlwind 6 month partnership involving staff and customers across the UK in their fundraising activities which included stranding managers on a deserted island in Scotland. We are delighted that Frankie and Benny’s smashed their £100,000 target and raised a whopping £275,000.

5 We’re going to need considerably stickier buns

We're delighted to have been chosen as Booths’ charity partner for Elizabeth Harper’s sticky toffee buns. Elizabeth is an employee of Booths Ripon who won the Great Booths Bake Off competition, the prize for which was her delicious buns being rolled out to all Booths stores. Elizabeth chose Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research to receive 10% proceeds from every sale, having lost her eighteen year old brother to leukaemia.

6 Royal London reaches £90,000

2014 has been a fantastic year for our partners, Royal London, with fundraising activities and events taking place all over the UK. Colleagues have taken part in group wide quizzes and raffles, as well as toy swaps in Edinburgh, muddy challenges in Wilmslow and the team in Bath cycling from London to Paris. The variety and effort Royal London colleagues have gone to this year has absolutely paid off, as they have raised an incredible £90,000 to help us beat blood cancers, with even more plans for 2015. 

7 KPMG Isle of Man

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research were chosen as KPMG’s charity of the year on the Isle of Man during 2014. KPMG’s main fundraising event was their Promenade Relay run in June and 104 teams competed over the 10km course and this combined with a range of other fun staff activities helped to raise close to £29,000.

8 The Business Show

In November we took the opportunity to exhibit at The Business Show held at Olympia with the aim of introducing our cause and corporate offering to the other 350 exhibitors and 25,000 visitors over the two-day event.  It was a first for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and the feedback during and following the event has been fantastic. It was exciting to engage with a large number of individuals and companies and something we’ll be looking to do more of in 2015.

9 Constructing patient videos

Bay Construct have generously sponsored the production of our new patient video series, with 30 patient interviews currently being edited covering eight different conditions. The videos are due for completion by the Spring, and we are hugely grateful to Bay Construct for allowing us to capture this incredible and empowering material from blood cancer patients. 

10 New partners

We have secured partnerships of various sizes and activities with a number of amazing companies throughout 2014, incluing:

We’ve also worked with several companies on targeted fundraising activities such as Covéa Insurance, who fundraised for us through dress-down days and bake sales as part of their Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Rolls-Royce took part in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge following the loss of a colleague and friend earlier this year and went on to raise £25,000 to be split between Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and The Brain Tumour Charity.

Intercontinental Hotels Group who organised a Scottish themed 'Tartan Trail' and bake sale to raise money to beat blood cancer and remember Claire , a friend and colleague who sadly passed away earlier this year after being diagnosed with Leukaemia



I love blogs like this which show just how much we achieved over the course of the year. We've certainly set the bar high for 2015 but I know that we're going to do even better in 2015! Go corporate team!
