It is always difficult to hear that a loved one has been diagnosed with an illness. When Jade Thompson heard that her cousin Joel who was only 21 from Australia was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in late 2013 she felt helpless with him being so far away.
She decided she needed to find a way to help despite the distance between them. As Joel had received a bone marrow transplant on the 16th January donated by his sister Alisha, Jade decided to start fundraising to help more people receive the vital treatments that saved her cousin.
Jade's fundraising night including a very successful raffle, brave Danny Lake raised £100 for waxing his legs on the night and Drag Queen Penny Change entertained the party for an hour on the night and she also conducted the raffle. Danny Bower put on an amazing solo gig at the begining of the night and the wonderful DJ Arran Lange kept everyone dancing all night long. Despite all the fun everyone had, Jade and all those who attended raised a staggering £1,136.55 in total.
A lesson for us all. If you want to help, it can be as easy as getting all your friends and family together to have fun and raise money to help beat blood cancer. Well done Jade!
