It really is an exciting time for us here at the Winterton and District Branch, we have a great team of people working incredibly hard and a lot of great work is being done all leading up to hitting the £50,000 milestone this summer!
We look forward to the annual Winterton Show on 5th and 6th July where we will be holding a stall. We have a family ticket for the Deep in Hull up for grabs in our treasure hunt game - new for this year, as well as tombola LLR merchandise and another games for the kids to get involved with. We look forward to engaging with supporters and spreading the word about the fantastic work being done by LLR to beat blood cancers, and what our branch is up to this summer.
Following the success of last year on 12th July we will be hosting our bungee jump at Winterton Community Pavilion. The event is set to be a fantastic day with our brave jumpers taking the leap of faith between 10.00am and 5.00pm. The Butchers Arms Winterton will be providing their bar services, the Winterton Lions will be there with the catering van and as well as the bungee jump entertainment there will also be a bouncy castle for kids! I will be among those jumping off the 175ft crane to help beat blood cancers, anyone interested in sponsoring me can do so by visiting my pledgeit page - I have set a target of £500 which I have almost reached so I hope to exceed this as much as I can!! https://pledgeit.org.uk/challenge/show/227
Many other brave members of the community will be taking on the crane, either as a solo jump or tandem jump. Included in those is Winterton Tesco Express Store Manager Matthew Barlow who is spreading awareness about the event and our branch in their store and is encouraging customers to donate in the Big Copper Count-Up to see him take the leap of faith on 12th July. The Big Copper Count-up will be leaving the store on 2nd August.
Burton Primary School will also be supporting our Big £50K campaign this summer by holding a non-uniform day and ur branch secretary Hannah Dunkerley will be running a cake sale at break charging 50p for a bun on Friday 18th July.
Our summer of fundraising will then continue as we tackle a 10 mile walk from the north side of the Humber Bridge through to Winterton. We will be stopping off at the Nelthorpe Arms in South Ferriby at the halfway point and ending at the Butchers Arms Winterton who will be hosting a BBQ at the end of the walk and walkers will receive a medal upon completion. Anyone interested in walking can sign up online, more details can be found on our website and Facebook page.
As part of our £50K celebration on Wednesday 20th August we will be heading off to Sheffield to visit one of the research labs. At the event there will be a series of talks from researchers at the University of Sheffield followed by a tour of the labs and various demonstrations. The day will end with a drinks reception and the opportunity to meet some of the people behind the vital research carried out by LLR.
On Sunday 31st August in support of the Big £50K Campaign Butchers Arms Landlord Chris Hutson and friend Garry Thompson will be completing a skydive challenge. Both Chris and Garry intend to raise as much as they can for our branch to help us reach the £50K milestone. We are very grateful to the pair for their continued support.
Following its success last year our Fashion Show will be returning to Winterton Community Academy on Thursday 11th September. We are very grateful to Winterton Community Academy for allowing us to have the use of their fantastic facilities again to stage the show! At this stage we can already confirm that KMR Bespoke Bridal Designer, Isnt She Lovely and John Leggott College Textiles Students will be showcasing their clothes on the catwalk with more companies to be announced over the coming weeks. This year we are also going to expand by having a mini wedding fayre and we anticipate large number in attendance following the huge response to last year’s show.
All in all we have a very busy summer planned ahead of a very exciting milestone which we cannot wait to achieve. When we hit the £50,000 milestone we will be holding a celebration evening inviting those that have supported us and helped us achieve what we have over the last four years. On behalf of our branch I would like to thank all of those that are supporting us and thank you to all our fundraising team who are working incredibly hard and are giving a lot of their time to make this summer one to remember!
