Clinical Research Facility Open Day

Bloodwise was recently invited to attend an open day at the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff by supporter Zoe Boult who is a senior nurse at the facility. The Clinical Research Facility provides a crucial facility for the translation of basic biomedical science developments into clinical practice, and a high quality clinical environment in which patients can undergo research programmes safely and effectively. It’s where the Bloodwise funded TAP programme is operated in Wales.

The event was an opportunity for the CRF to showcase the work they do to clinicians, patients and families and we were really pleased to be able to attend and show the wealth of information that our charity has available. It was a great afternoon with over 100 people attending the various talks and tours.

Huge thanks to supporter Johanna Greenaway for being there on behalf of Bloodwise to talk to attendees. Johanna has been treated at this facility herself on a clinical trial and believes that without the work we do as a charity, she wouldn’t have received the treatment that she underwent so quickly and efficiently. She was able to tell people first-hand what it’s like to be on a trial and treated at the facility. Thanks go to Ellie Philpotts who also attended on our behalf and said that she really enjoyed representing Bloodwise, meeting some great new people and hearing the informative talks. And finally, thank you to Tom Jones, our Regional Chair in Wales for attending and packing everything up at the end of the evening!
