To kick off Small Change, BIG Impact in style, five of us took part in Zip Slide Across The Clyde for the first time ever!

To kick off Small Change, BIG Impact in style last weekend, we secured five places for the infamous Zip Slide Across The Clyde in central Glasgow.

I decided to practise what I preach and entered myself as the fifth person for the event, joining our supporters Kerry (who runs our Inverclyde Fundraising Group), Alyson, Charlie and Debbie.

When I signed up it all seemed like a good idea but, having caught my first glimpse of the 150ft crane we were about to be hoisted to the top of, I think all of us got rather nervous. Luckily my colleague Emma was there to calm all of our nerves and to take photos.

The most frightening part was being lifted up to the top of the crane in a metal basket made for 9 people and looking down at the 300m wide expanse of river that we were about to cross. Stepping off the edge went against all of our survival instincts but instanteously the harness supported you and we whizzed off one at a time to the other side of the bank where a crowd of family and friends had gathered to watch.

It was all over in a flash and the rush of adrenaline was amazing. My legs were like jelly climbing down the ladder from the scaffolding at the end of the zip line!

To see the videos of us actually zip sliding, have a look at our Scotland Facebook page.

We asked each zip slider to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship but I'm delighted to say that we have collectively raised over £1,800! Alyson has raised £1,115 of that sponsorship money on her own, which is absolutely incredible.

It was a fantastic experience and I'd recommend it to anyone. If you're interested in doing this zip slide in the future, get in touch!
