Dale Roberts and his wife Karen are Eurvosion Song Contest fans. Following Karen's diagnosis with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), Dale and Karen chose to fundraise for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research with a fantastic Eurovision theme.

Dale and Karen have produced a special flag of all previous UK winners of Eurovision, along with Sir Terry Wogan and Graham Norton too, which has been signed by all acts featured. Dale and Karen and their fundraising project 'Flying the Flag' are raffling this unique flag to raise funds to help beat blood cancers.

The raffle is taking place on the Flying the Flag JustGiving page now where entry is €5, with the final date of entries on 29th May.  You can see a great selection of photos of the flag and also keep up to date with the raffle on the Flying the Flag Facebook and Twitter pages.

Below, Karen and Dale share their stories, including the inspiration behind their Flying the Flag fundraising.

I am a great fan of the Eurovision Song Contest.

I went to see the Final in Dusseldorf and in order to show support for the UK took along with a huge Union Flag, with our UK entrant 'BLUE' written across the middle. The flag gained a great deal of attention from fans and media alike and that set my mind thinking...what if we get another flag and get all 5 previous UK winners of Eurovision to sign it?

For the past few contests there has been the appearance of what are called 'Minipop Icons' of all the competitors.  The designer of the Icons is Ben Morris who is a professional illustrator now living in Edinburgh.  Ben was contacted and he very kindly agreed to design the Union Flag and the Minipop Icons of all the UK winners: Sandie Shaw (1967), Lulu (1969), Brotherhood of Man - Martin Lee, Lee Sheriden, Nicky and Sandra Stevens (1976), Bucks Fizz - Bobby G, Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan, Jay Aston (1981), and Katrina and The Waves - Katrina Leskanich, Alex Cooper, Vince de la Cruz, Kimberley Rew (1997).

With the help of BBC Radio 2 we were also able to obtain the signatures, next to their very own Minipop Icons, of the BBC Eurovision commentators Graham Norton and of course Sir Terry Wogan!

The Malcolm Boyden Show on BBC Radio Oxford have been great supporters of the campaign and we are very grateful to them for coping with the huge logistical task of sending the flag for everyone to sign and getting it safely back! The draw for the flag will take place on Thursday 30th May on the W12P Live show on Oystermouth Radio, one of the few dedicated Eurovision shows in the UK and we are grateful for their partnership in the campaign.

My name is Karen, a primary school teacher, mother of two children and a Eurovision fan! I watched last year’s Eurovision final in an isolation room having just received a stem cell transplant which saved my life after my AML relapsed.

I am now doing well, and will once again be enjoying this year’s contest, but this time in Malmo itself and not from a lonely hospital bed. However, I know that without the dedicated research of such groups as Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, it is unlikely that I would be here today.

So please enter this raffle knowing that, as well as being in with a chance of winning such a unique Eurovision item, your contribution will help all those suffering from this awful disease.
