The story of the Calendar Girls has inspired hundreds of amateur dramatic groups across the country to re-create the wonderful story of a small Women’s Institute in the Yorkshire village of Knapely and the determination and courage they displayed in creating a nude, yet tasteful, calendar. They set out to buy a settee for a hospital waiting-room but raised sufficient funds to build a whole new wing.
The Folksworth Players are one such group and their four performances of the now iconic play was seen by approx. 350 people and was very well received, with a lot of positive feedback about the quality of the production and the consistently high level of acting. The ladies of Folksworth Players have posed for their very own calendar. In common with the original calendar, the profits will go to ‘Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research’, the UK’s only charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancers. Huge thanks to Becky Heath, photographer, without her the calendar would have been impossible!
The calendar is still available and can be ordered by contacting Phil Beal on Tel: 01733 243255 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org The Folksworth Players would like to thank all the sponsors of the calendar who have ensured that nearly all the money spent buying a calendar will go to the charity.
The Folksworth Players raised a wonderful £1000 from the sale of the calendars which was presented to Andy Fuller (Chairman Spalding & Bourne Branch) on Friday 8th March 13. We would like to thank everyone involved for their support!
