We were delighted to celebrate the achievements of our partnership with GB Railfreight at a special event held at the Devonshire Terrace in London last month.

The event paid recognition to the time and effort contributed by GB Railfreight colleagues to raise funds through a wide range of events and challenges. These were kick-started in September 2014 with a 135 mile staff cycle from London to March, Cambridgeshire, enjoyed especially by GB Railfreight’s Managing Director John Smith in a fairy fancy dress costume. A series of quiz nights, dress down days, marathon runs and challenges followed, culminating in groups of employees skydiving, cycling (again!) and peak climbing their way to a total of £62,118.99, all in aid of our mission to beat blood cancer.

Worthy of a particular mention are the charity railtours organised by GB Railfreight for the general public and train enthusiasts to enjoy charter day trips around the country. The trip between Glasgow and Crewe on 9 August 2015 raised a record £21,170, helping the company achieve substantially more than they had originally hoped for when the partnership began.

Jeanette Smith of GB Railfreight says “GBRf have been very active over the years supporting various charities and we placed a very challenging task in 2014/2015 supporting Bloodwise and hoping to surpass our target of £20,000. We are pleased to confirm that we have indeed exceeded our own expectations in raising in excess of £60,000 which is the highest amount we have raised for an individual charity and one so well deserved.”

Spending time talking with GB Railfreight colleagues at the recognition event in January, it was evident that they represent an incredibly warm and welcoming organisation that really values and encourages the contribution its staff make to charity. GB Railfreight have said that their vision is to set the standard of corporate responsibility for the rail freight industry, and that is certainly what this partnership has done.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to GB Railfreight for their fierce commitment to improving the lives of those affected by blood cancer. Congratulations are also in order for beating their target three times over! It has been a pleasure working with GB Railfreight over the past 18 months and being given the opportunity to celebrate this success together.
