Get your #LegsOutForLymphoma !!!

I wanted to come up with some fun ways of raising a little bit more cash, in the run up to the London Bikeathon in August.

Inspired by similar recent campaigns, I had a thought...  Remember the absolute hysteria created by Angelina Jolie and that Oscars dress in 2012, exposing just one leg?  Imagine what we could all achieve if we were to all bare BOTH LEGS??

Knowing the characters around my workplace, I suspected some would require little encouragement to bare a little flesh. So I asked them all to don their favourite (or most embarrassing) ra-ra skirts, Bermuda shorts, hot-pants and cropped trousers… and get their Legs Out For Lymphoma!

The dodgy weather forecast put the kibosh on some of the more extreme costume options, but I'm pleased to say that a good 10-12 of my dear fellow colleagues all got in the spirit, with varying degrees of ankle, calf and knee on display.  And after stuffing our faces full of sweets and chocolate, we raised a fantastic £75.00 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research between us.

The JustGiving text number (NICK82 £2 to 70070) was just supposed to make things a bit more interactive.  And the hashtag was a bit hopeful, given that few of my colleagues are actually on Twitter.  But maybe, if we spread the word, using #LegsOutForLymphoma obviously, we could all start something a bit bigger than I did today...?

I was successfully treated for Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2012.  My personal experiences of blood cancer, and my participation with have taught me that we don't have to move mountains to make a difference.

Really great idea Nick! I will spread the love via twitter too. Keep up the great work. Lauren

Hi Nick,

Great work on getting the pins out! What a simple but great way to boost your fundraising!!! I shaved my head a few weeks ago to similar effect and as you say you really don't have to move mountains to make a difference. To put that in to some kind of context just £100 will pay for the nurses needed for two patients to go on one of our clinical trials. It'll also get you a free cycling jersey!

With that in mind, don't forget to add the total you raised on JustGiving through your leg bearing antics to your offline funds raised on your London Bikeathon fundraising page.

All the best with the rest of your training and thank you so much for everything that you're doing to help us beat blood cancer!

Thanks for your message Andy!

I found the place to add the offline donations to my total; thanks for the (shaved) heads-up!  Am I able to increase the fundraising target too?

Regards the cycling jersey, I haven't yet received any of the sign-up material I remember from my last LLR Bikeathon; should I be expecting something, or a bit nearer to the actual ride?  How much do I have to raise to get said jersey? :)
