It was with great sadness that I heard the news of Lynda Bellingham’s untimely death today and I can only imagine how her husband Michael must be feeling right now, losing such a vibrant light in his life.

I was lucky enough to meet Lynda and Michael several years ago at a special lunch in Bradford to celebrate the Calendar Girls play. They were both such great company, Michael clearly adored Lynda and Lynda just lit up the room with her huge smile and warm personality.

She spoke to me about how much she loved her role in the Calendar Girls play and the admiration that she had for Angela and the Girls and the inspiration she knew that they had been to so many people. She very much hoped that the play would achieve something similar and she was an integral part of ensuring that it did, for ladies of a certain age, to cancer patients, the play and Lynda were an inspiration.

Lynda has dealt with her illness with a dignity and a humour that has secured her place in our hearts even more firmly and ensured that her national treasure status will continue for years to come. Everyone at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research sends their love and sympathy to Michael and his family and friends at this very sad time.

Love her. An inspiration.

Such sad news.

She was a fantastic actress who did so much for charity, including Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and the way she conducted herself through her own cancer battle was truly inspirational and testament to her extraordinary heart and character. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten. RIP Lynda.
