A memorial football match to raise much needed funds for Bloodwise in memory of Railwayman Graham Stenning who sadly passed away recently following a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.

Friday the 31st March saw two teams of Railway engineers from Stewarts Lane Depot and Selhurst Depot converge at Croydon Athletic Football Club to battle it out on a warm, sunny spring afternoon to win the day in a fundraising football match in memory of their colleague Graham Stenning, who recently passed away following a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.

Stewarts Lane won the day with a hard earned 4-1 victory over their Selhurst rivals.

Following this, everyone retired to the clubhouse for a much needed beer and a prize raffle.

I was privileged to be invited to this event as a fellow employee, friend of the organiser and to represent the charity in my role as a Bloodwise Ambasador. I was further invited to make a speech at this event to speak about the charity and to raise awareness of who we are and what we do.

I managed to speak to Grahams brother about the work the charity do and how it's our goal to beat blood cancer once and for all.

The event was a lively affair, with around 100 attending. To date, the event has raised almost £2000 which is a pretty awesome figure, with more to come.

I'm also pleased to note that we managed to drink the bar dry.

Organiser spoke of hoping to make this a regular thing, so watch this space!

Together we will beat Blood cancer
