My name is Mil Vukovic-Smart and in my role as Policy & Public Affairs Manager at Bloodwise I make sure that the voice of blood cancer patients is heard in Westminster and Whitehall and across devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Part of this involves working with partners in the NHS, and other cancer and medical research charities to inform policy and influence change.
As a policy ambassador, you will have the opportunity to assist our influencing and campaigning work in a number of ways. This could range from informing our submissions to consultations on a particular policy area of patient need, supporting a policy campaign by writing to your MP or attending events and workshops.
How you've already helped us
In recent months Bloodwise Ambassadors have provided us with an invaluable patient voice at events in Parliament: speaking at a roundtable discussion with MPs on the quality of care for patients living with and living beyond blood cancer, and representing the charity at a reception designed to raise awareness of less common cancers among MPs; and taking part in the Public Health England workshop on patient data.
Some of you have even been raising awareness and encouraging political figures like Lord Kinnock to show support for the cause of your own accord!
How you can help
One way that you can get involved straight away is by taking part in the Review of the Informed Choice for Cancer Registration in England. The review will look at how cancer patients in England could be better informed about the use of their data in cancer registration and is led by our colleagues at Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer.
It would be fantastic to have a strong Bloodwise representation at the patient engagement events (lunch and expenses paid) and you can register your interest here: http://www.macmillan.org.uk/about-us/what-we-do/we-make-change-happen/we-shape-policy/your-cancer-data.html#276572
Training & development
Part of being Bloodwise Ambassador is also learning and development about your area of interest. Over the coming months we will be running a media and policy workshop providing you with more detail information about our work and tools for effective media and policy campaigning.
We'll also be in touch with other opportunities for you to help us with our ongoing policy work as and when they come in.
If you have any questions please contact me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Many thanks and looking forward to being in touch!
