Training rides through May and into June

So back at the start of May we had planned a to ride a fairly long way to Stratford along the canals but due to the weather and the state of the tow paths out that way we decided against it and to ride to Wolverhampton and back instead (just over 15 miles each way). The ride started ok until I fell off two minutes down the road after my laces got caught in t he pedals. No major damage was done but it was fairly unpleasant affair having not fallen off my bike for quite some time now.

Anyway, after picking myself up and making sure I hadn't fallen in the pile of dog poo nearby we cracked on down the canal only for a few miles only for the other pedal to fall clean off the bike and the bearings to scatter all over the tow path never to be found. Safe to say we had a failry long walk back home. Thankfully the shop I bought the bike from 6 months ago replaced the pedals without charge althought they're so cheap and nasty I don't think they could charge.

The weekend after we tried the ride along the canal to Wolverhampton again and did it without trouble. 33.8 miles in  the bag, the furthest we've ridden to date. We went with a friend of ours who rides every day and is really quite fit. It pushed us a bit harder than usual (no bad thing) but both of us were shattered afterwards.

Since the 18th May I've only managed two rides home from work and one longer 25 miler and it's looking like it'll be fairly difficult to get any long rides in until the weekend of the 5th July. I'm going to try and wind it up and aim for a 40 mile ride that weekend so that I know I'm getting close to the target of 52 - wish me luck :-)
