Heroic cancer patient prepares for Coventry Half Marathon in support of Bloodwise
One of our committed supporters who's also a blood cancer patient, Andrew Lambert, is preparing to run the Coventry Half Marathon on 28 February in support of our charity
Our committed supporter and blood cancer patient, Andrew Lambert, is preparing to run the Coventry Half Marathon on 28 February in support of Bloodwise. Andy was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer known as chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) in 2011. He's now preparing to embark on his seventh challenge for the charity, and he's raised nearly £4,000 so far. The half marathon, which includes a lap through Coventry city centre, is significant as he will be due to start a course of treatment days after.
Andrew said: “I'm running for Bloodwise to help raise money for the ground-breaking research they fund in the field of blood cancers. Since my diagnosis, I have competed in cycle rides and swimming events for Bloodwise. So this year, it’s time to face my ultimate challenge – running, a sport I'm not so strong at."
“I had made plans to compete in the Brighton Marathon in April, but as I'm due to start my next round of treatment, this event will sadly have to be delayed until next year. At 63, this is going to be a big challenge for me, but I’m really looking forward to it."
Andy’s determination to complete this challenge is inspiring and indicative of so many of our supporters. We're honoured that he has chosen to support Bloodwise again and take on this challenge at a difficult time. We're also grateful to all our supporters in the Midlands who show such commitment and determination.
