My name is Lizzie and I work in our Patient Experience Team here at Bloodwise. I’m the point of contact who will support you in raising awareness of Bloodwise and blood cancer in your local hospitals and GP surgeries, as well as recruiting you to attend patient events in your local area.
Together it is important to make sure that anyone affected by blood cancer has the best information available to them, as well as encouraging people to seek support should they need it. We can do this by ensuring Bloodwise has a bigger presence in hospitals and GP surgeries all over the country. By talking to your healthcare professionals about our services, offering them, and other patient and families our information booklets, support cards or posters we can reduce feelings of isolation that many people feel when diagnosed with blood cancer.
By attending events hosted by different hospitals and patient groups, and sharing your stories with other patients, you can provide incredible support to people. You can also raise awareness of blood cancer, show how it differs from other cancers, and the different needs that surround it. This work is invaluable, and we can’t do it without you!
How I can help you do this
My role is to let you know what new information and resources we are producing, support you in making sure your hospital is stocking the most up to date versions, and let you know about events in your area.
You can get in touch with me if you would like to order some of our materials to leave at your hospital, and feel free to give me a ring any time if you have any other queries too, particularly if you come across any tricky questions while in your ambassador role. Do pass on my contact details if you meet anyone in hospital, or at an event, who would like more information on Bloodwise, blood cancer, or anything that we’re doing. If you’re in any doubt about what to do, let me know!
Where to start
If there is a lack of Bloodwise patient information material at your local hospital, some outdated booklets on show, or if you meet a patient or healthcare professional who would like to order any information from us, get in touch. I can send materials directly to the hospital, so you don’t have to carry lots of books!
People have found our Support Cards (pictured) particularly useful as they detail all the information patients, and hospital staff will need to get in touch with us. Let me know if you want me to send you some of these to distribute at your next appointment.
I will let you know about events coming up, or updated information in our monthly newsletter, so keep looking out for something that interests you!
To make sure you are getting the most out of being an Ambassador I welcome all feedback on the programme, whether I can do anything further to support you in your role, and anything you hear from healthcare professionals or other patients about our information booklets or services.
I am very excited to be working with you as I know that we are all very passionate about supporting others and spreading awareness of blood cancer. We can make a real difference by ensuring others have access to helpful information and support.
