Maisie Whitworth, our Beefy Walk hero for Manchester, was joined by Coronation Street’s Ryan Thomas for an amazing evening of fundraising!
Maisie was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2009 just before her second birthday and finished treatment in November. She helped host her own “We love Maisie” event at the Royton Band Club in Oldham on Saturday 25 February. The event raised over £4,500 for the charity and was part of Maisie’s ongoing fundraising for Beefy’s Great British Walk 2012.
Friends from the hospital where Maisie was treated joined her for an evening of arts and crafts, live music and auctions. Prizes included a personal VIP tour of Coronation Street courtesy of actor Ryan Thomas, which sold for £250, and two signed and framed Manchester City shirts. Live music from The Undecided, a group formed of local doctors and nurses, kept the party atmosphere alive throughout the evening.
Lisa Whitworth, Maisie’s mum, said: “It was an absolutely amazing night and we raised a lot of money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. We’re hoping this will encourage more people to sign up to the walks and help us and Beefy beat childhood blood cancers.”
