The IHG Tartan Trail

Colleagues from IHG joined together for a Scottish themed 'Tartan Trail' and bake sale to raise money to beat blood cancer and remember Claire

The InterContinental Hotels Group Global Procurement team hosted a fantastic fundraising event last Monday at the IHG Head Office in Denham. The ‘Tartan Trail’ was organised in memory of their dear friend and colleague Claire Leitch, who tragically passed away in August having being diagnosed with Acute Leukaemia just two days previously.

The event involved a short speech from us, followed by a 5k run/walk around the area and bake sale for the deserving participants – and others in the office who just came down for the cake! The spread of baked goods was amazing and Royston and I did well to resist the temptation to take any…until the end of the afternoon.

Through donations for tartan ribbons, run entry and cake sales IHG have already raised £1,673 to help us beat blood cancer, with more funds to come from the cake trolley doing the rounds the following day.

Annie Brown, IHG's Chief Procurement Officer, commented: "Claire was such a popular presence in our department and a true friend to so many of her colleagues that we wanted to find a way to remember her and give everyone an opportunity to participate. We're absolutely delighted with the contribution we've been able to make, and knowing it will directly benefit such an important cause gives us all great peace of mind."

We are hugely grateful for IHG’s fundraising efforts and the opportunity to join them to support the Tartan Trail. We are also delighted that IHG will be sponsoring one of our Prioritisation of Patient Need events on 20th November which will bring together individuals affected by blood cancer from all over the country.

A huge well done to everyone involved at IHG in what is an extremely fitting tribute to Claire. We're delighted that it went so well. Thank you so much, too, for sponsoring our Prioritising Patient Need event on Thursday which will be a fantastic opportunity for us to speak more with the people that matter the most to us - blood cancer patients.

Great blog Abi, it's so awful to lose a colleague and what a lovely way to pay tribute to her life.
