My name is Lauren and I have been working as regional assistant for The North for close to two months now and I thought it would be a great time to introduce myself to all of our fantastic supporters and give you a taste of what I have been up to.
I started work for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research just after the Small change BIG impact campaign came to a close. It was fantastic to see over £8,500 was raised in the North. I am excited to get stuck into planning for 2015.
I was lucky enough to join Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research in time for Connect, a series of events across the country to connect supporters and researchers. Connect north was held in Manchester on 2 October 2014. Connect was designed to be both an informative and inspiring evening for supporters - it truly was both for me.
It was brilliant to hear first hand from our director of research about the developments Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research have made over the years and the path forward. I also got to meet and hear Lucas Sutheren speak. Lucas was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) when he was 11. Now 14 years old Lucas has just finished treatment and has grown into a confident and strong young man. It was truly inspirational to hear Lucas’s story and for Lucas to stand up in front of strangers and speak with so much confidence and compassion.
Since Connect north I have spent a lot of time picking up on contact with long standing supporters along with supporting new individuals and companies who wish to raise money for us. It is fantastic to see the range of fundraising activities our supporters undertake from comedy nights to a 12 hour dry-athon! There are so many ways you can fundraise; be creative with your ideas and most of all….do something you will enjoy!
Last week I was lucky enough to meet Sir Ian Botham, founder of Beefy’s Foundation. Beefy’s Foundation supports five charities including Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and has donated an incredible amount to our charity over the years. Beefy’s Foundation were Living North’s chosen charity at their 2014 christmas fair, therefore Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research along with the other four charities were invited to have a presence at the fair this year. It was a great 4 days both meeting the representatives from the other charities along with chatting to members of the public. I also came away feeling super christmassy (I know it’s only November)
So that brings me up to this week. I hope this has been a good insight into what I do and perhaps inspired you to do some fundraising of your own. Remember, I am here to help with all your fundraising activities so do get in touch.
