Jack Burnett (9) – will join Beefy on Friday 20 April in Cambridge
Jack Burnett was aged only four when he was diagnosed with leukaemia in July 2007, just before he was due to go on a family holiday. Having been unwell and failed to recover, mum Erika took him to the GP and within hours he was beginning treatment at Addenbrookes Hospital. The three years of chemotherapy were very difficult for the whole family, but particularly Jack’s brother Marcus, who was old enough to understand Jack’s life was in danger. Thankfully Jack, now eight, completed his treatment in August 2010 and is back at school fulltime.
Erika said: “We’re so grateful to Sir Ian for everything he’s done. The fact that he is still so committed despite not having a personal connection amazes me. The millions of pounds he’s raised have made such a difference – if research wasn’t funded by Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research children like Jack wouldn’t be here today.”
