Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research learnt with great sadness of the death of 15 year old Jak Trueman yesterday. Jak had a very rare form of blood cancer called gamma-delta T-cell lymphoma, which doctors discovered was terminal just over a week ago.
Since then Jak's determination to make the most of the time that he had left and to raise money to help others gained the attention of the national media. Jak's facebook page has reached almost 40,000 followers and his fundraising page to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research has topped £50,000.
Jak truly was an inspiration. As well as raising money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, he also set up 'Team Jak' to provide support services to fellow cancer patients during their treatment.
Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said: “We were extremely saddened to learn of Jak’s death and our immediate thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones.
“Jak’s determination to help others at such a difficult time has been nothing short of incredible. His positivity has inspired so many people and the money raised will make a huge difference to the lives of everyone affected by blood cancer.”
