Students at John Leggott College Scunthorpe help with our push to the £100,00 milestone with Big Copper Count-Up fundraising

Students and staff at John Leggott College Scunthorpe have been busy raising vital funds and awareness whilst they have housed the Big Copper Count-Up on campus over a four month period, since the tower arrived at the end of January of this year.

JLC was the first higher education establishment that The Big Copper Count-Up has visited. The 4ft tower travels around local businesses and points of community interest and has already raised over £11,000 since 2011 to help beat blood cancer whilst making more people in our area aware of the charity.

As a young branch we are keen to change the perceptions of young people, so to give the students of JLC a platform to get involved with our branch seemed like a natural thing to do.

The college also hosted collection tubs around campus as part of the Big Copper Count-Up campaign to increase the amount of donations made which were frequently emptied by Sophie from our team who is studying at the college.

Sophie also ran a stand at the college's opening evening in February with other students from JLC selling merchandise and providing information about our cause to perspective students. All the monies raised were added to the Big Copper Count-Up tower which was situated in the colleges Starbucks cafe.

The sixth form college also helped raise awareness for our cause by directing staff and students to our online platforms on TV screens across campus and on their online portal.

Thanks to all the kind donations from staff and students at the college £181.09 was raised to help improve the lives of the 38,000 people diagnosed with blood cancer in the UK each year.

The Big Copper Count-Up's home for the next two months will be Burton Primary School having raised over £300 when it previously visited the school last year.
