Last big training ride

With just two weeks left, I thought it would be a good idea to get a least one big training ride in before the event. After all it's been 5 weeks since I complete the London to Brighton, so I really need to get some hard mileage into my legs.

With just two weeks left, I thought it would be a good idea to get a least one big training ride in before the event. After all it's been 5 weeks since I complete the London to Brighton, so I really need to get some hard mileage into my legs.

Instead of one big long circular route that I usually take, I decided that a shorter loop, done as laps would be better. Just in case in needed to bail out for any reason. One of the possible reasons is my tyres. In the space of just six weeks I suffered 3 punctures! So I bit the bullet and bought new tyres, even though the bike was only 6 weeks old. They are son much better, and at least I'm not panicking everytime I hit even the tiniest of bumps in the road. Anyway, back to the ride.

I thought that even though there aren't any major hills on the Bikeathon, I needed to push really hard, so I included both Blackheath Hill and Shooters Hill. Anyone in south London will know these, trust me. But I didn't just do them. No, I was daft enough to do them twice. Yes, I was that crazy. But somehow I managed to complete the 53.79mile ride in just 4hrs 1min! Faster than I have ever ridden.

Now, I know that it isn't a race, but I now know in my heart that I will complete the ride in a reasonable time, and still have some energy in the tank to look good for my finish photo.
