Staff at Leek United Building Society have given a special cash boost to Bloodwise in memory of a dear former colleague.

Tony Hubbard, the Society’s former Operations Director, died last December following a courageous battle with leukaemia. During his illness, members of Leek United Building Society Head Office team decided to focus their charity fundraising throughout 2016 on Bloodwise, Tony’s chosen charity.  Tony was part of the team and inspired many creative and fun fundraising activities to help them raise as much money as possible.  Events including dress-down days, raffles, a staff tuck shop, a mobile fish and chip van in the staff car park, and the Society’s annual charity golf day.  This year the Society have raised a grand total of £6,000 over the last 12 months.

Last week I was delighted to visit the team to thank them for their amazing fundraising efforts in person and to hear that they will be supporting us for a second year!

Leek United Chief Executive Kevin Wilson: “Tony is greatly missed, and it is a measure of just how well thought of and respected he was that everyone was unanimous in wanting to dedicate a year’s fundraising to his memory."

I am constantly inspired by the stories of those fundraising for us and the dedication of our supporters, and we are truly grateful to every single member of Leek United’s team for their achievement.

The amazing amount of money they have raised in memory of their much-loved colleague Tony will be invested in our life-saving research, to help us in our mission to stop people from dying of blood cancer and make patients’ lives better.
