Due to some technical difficulties of the Bloodwise website after their rebrand we’ve only been able to post this blog we wrote a couple of weeks ago.  You’ll find it’s a little out of date but we thought you might enjoy it regardless. Oh and excuse the formatting of this blog, it looks like they still havent fixed all the technical difficulties on blog updates, we can't even update any pictures either!  T minus 1.5 days till take-off…

04 September 2015

Excitement! In exactly two weeks’ time we’ll be rolling down the Greenwich hill in the direction of Paris and we won’t stop until we’re on top of the White Cliffs overlooking the North Sea on the first leg of our four day mini-tour-de-France .

Last weekend we joined a training ride under the guidance of the great people from RGActive, who took us on a beautiful tour from idyllic Richmond town through Surrey. As usual, for us it meant getting up really early and tube it to the outskirts of London to join up with the group, but being out and about in the sun and the peaceful surroundings of the windy river Thames made it more than worth it. What made it extra special was that we got to try out our official ‘London to Paris’ kit for the first time as part of a uniformly outfitted group rolling down the countryside. A first for both of us, and a unique feeling emphasizing the team spirit of our undertaking.

There were some familiar sights and roads, as we had passed through some parts of the area on the London 100 sportive in August, including a second chance at giving it our all on the popular zig-zag inclines of Box Hill. Not having to share the road to the top with hundreds of fellow cyclists gave us a great opportunity to improve on our first time and get some ‘personal best times’ in - as well as completely drain our legs.

After a great morning of cycling with no incidents – except for one flat – we all made it back to the start safe and sound in excellent spirit accompanied by our fellow riders who we’ll soon be heading off with. It was great to meet so many nice people who all seem to have their own personal reasons for participating. While some do it to motivate or raise awareness, others have lost friends, family or even have been through – and are still undergoing – recovery themselves. It makes you realize that through physical effort and exertion there’s a soothing clarity to be found which helps in focusing on which things in life really matter. Like the ability to be active and in good health.

By now we’ve already raised over ONE THOUSAND pounds for the Bloodwise organization and we would like to thank all of you who’ve donated and are cheering us on from the sidelines!!! Thank you so much!  The link to our donation page is: https://bloodwise.org.uk/fundraising/ly-stijn-l2p-2015-17-21-september-2015

It means a lot to us that we are able to not just participate but also contribute and give something back. Now, more than ever, we need to show solidarity with those around us that are going through tough times.

Thank you all for your support and we’ll update soon!
