I am back at my desk now, facing a busy diary and a long list of “red-flag” tasks on outlook demanding my attention, but I am struggling to focus. For the last few days I have been working as crew on Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research’s London|Paris Be Unstoppable cycling challenge and I am still on a bit of a high, buzzing with the excitement of it all.
We had a theme tune running throughout the event – Call me maybe, by Carly Rae Jepsen – and I have the tune and snatches of the lyrics riffing through my head alongside a kaleidoscope of images of cyclists, crashed out on the grass in the sunshine, on the benches with the physios working on them to prepare for the next stage, standing around in groups animatedly re-living the day just done, and the crew scurrying around setting up and tearing down the rest stops, flags, food, water, mechanics station, relaxing momentarily before the first riders come in.
It was a fabulous event and could not have gone better. So where does that leave me?
All I know is that London | Paris is more than unstoppable – it is inescapable, and I will do it again, only next year I’ll be on wheels.
See you there.
