On September 21st, Mark Harrison, Alan Critchley, Chris Midgley and Mark Wharton set off on their bikes from Land's End, aiming to reach John O'Groats in just 8 days. For anyone who's not familiar with this challenge, most of the teams that do it aim for 12-14 days. Averaging about 8-10 hours in the saddle each day, this is an incredible challenge, both mentally and physically.
The team are raising money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and also the Lymphoma Association. They explain why on their JustGiving page: "Each of us has immediate family or friends that are affected by blood cancers and these charities provide excellent and much needed support to patients, carers and families.
"We’ve arranged that all the costs for the trip will be borne by ourselves, thus ensuring that every penny you donate goes to the benefit of these well deserving charities. Please dig deep and support our challenge. We are very grateful for any support you can offer."
So far the team have raised an incredible £23,000 which will be divided between the charities. They've done a fantastic job of raising money to help beat blood cancer and we are very grateful for their support. Yesterday Steve Jones, from our Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Branch, went to meet the team in Preston, where they were stopping for a tea break with some local media.
"The elements have certainly been against them, but they all seem to be taking it in high spirits," Steve said. "I wish them good luck for the rest of the ride."
