Rode a couple of laps of the park and they hurt. I tried climbing the Maggie Backsted way (stand on the pedals and turn the biggest gear you can) and it just isn't working for me. I was passed by loads of riders going uphill though I often caught them on the flat. Must find another way to climd a fmate has suggested using a small gaer and keeping the cadence high, will try it next time. I also need to adjust my riding position as I am still getting lots of lower back pain, not good when I aim to ride 100 miles, thats a lot of time in the saddle

Sounds like the going was tough but you're going to get days where it feels tougher than others and you will get better at hills with practice I'm sure. Keep going and remember that you're doing it for a really great cause.
