"It was the worst day of my life when I heard that Daniel had leukaemia. I wanted to protect him and do everything I could to keep him alive.
I hid my negative thoughts from him because he was being extremely brave and I knew it helped him to be told as much hopeful news as possible about the disease. But despite all my contacts in science and medicine, at the time I could not find any families who had a success story to tell about a teenager with leukaemia.
Thankfully Daniel's story is a great success, and I believe his cycle ride will help give families going through the leukaemia experience the hope and information they need.
Donations will go to scientists doing research into improving the survival rates for teenagers with this disease - rates which are far lower than for younger children with leukaemia. And it is the teenage survival rates which your donations will help to improve."
