Nancy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in November 2012 at the age of 4 and is currently under going treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital. Mum, Kerry, tells her story:

"Nancy has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and we are powerless to change this. Her life is very difficult and scary at the moment, filled with procedures, tests, transfusions, chemotherapy, steroids, hair loss, pain and confusion. It is a world away from the carefree life of a 4 year old that she knew up until her diagnosis on the 2nd November 2012.

We feel very sad and are scared too. However, we want to turn this negative into a positive and channel our energy and love for Nancy, who is a real inspiration to us, into something that can make a difference.

We have been overwhelmed by the gifts, cards, calls, words, prayers and love from our huge family of friends and we cannot express our deep gratitude or the importance of this to us as a family enough. All of those who love us have asked things like "what can we do" or said "if there is anything, please let us know."

There are lots of things that we want to focus upon now to help Nancy and others affected by blood cancer which doesn't discriminate. Our exceptionally great friend Jamie Greer is undertaking 12 challenges: one every month through the next year, to raise money for Leukaemia Research. We've also set up Team Nancy to help raise as much money for Leukaemia Lymphoma Research.

We have had to learn so much this autumn including the enormous amount of work that Leukaemia Research have done (and continue to do) to improve the chances of children with this disease. 50 years ago Nancy would have died, now she has a 93% chance of survival. This is due to the research and developments made by the charity and we are indebted to this organisation already."

Team Nancy are holding a wide range of events and activities throughout the year from running, swimming and cycling to a Ceilidh, a Fete and a Charity Gig and have already raised £24,000 for the charity!
