26 miles round London = 26 miles along the Northumberland coast

I had planned to ride the London Bikeathon.  Economically it made no sense as I would have to pay out for train fares and hotel rooms but I wanted to do something to show my support for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, and it also gave me something to train for - up until 3 months ago I hadn't been on a bike for over 10 years so 26 miles was going to be a challenge.

Today, I completed my 26 mile ride - not in London unfortunately as the logistics proved impossible to organise - but along the Northumberland coast.  So instead of St Paul's Cathedral at the 3 mile mark, I cycled past the Lynemouth Miners Welfare Institute; where it would have been Canary Wharf at mile 10, I got some lovely wild flowers; in place of Tower Bridge at mile 13, I had a fabulous view out over the North Sea; Battersea Power Station at 19 miles was replaced by a light aircraft festival; and when it should have been the Palace of Westminster at 23 miles, I had a field of cows watching me with interest.

I'll try again next year for the London version, but I thoroughly enjoyed my Northumberland Bikeathon.
