Old Boys Cycle Challenge raises £6742!

18 Sep 2014

Between 26/06/14 - 28/06/14 a team of 8 friends rode 170 miles from Scarborough Jetty to Blackpool North Pier to raise money for Trinity Hospice in memory of a very close friend Viv Bonsor and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research as in 2012 James' Sister Lorraine was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Lorraine (Pictured above with James and I) was able to take advantage of new pioneering treatment but this treatment is particularly expensive so the Old Boys Cycling Team wanted generate as much money as possible in order that others might benefit and they certainly did that by fundraising at every opportunity. After each days riding the team spent their time collecting on their route to top up sponsorship money!

Unfortunately Lorraine has now had a relapse and her battle continues, which has made them more determined than ever to help her and other people suffering from this terrible disease. Next years ride is already being planned as a Coast to Coast across Ireland, Day 1 = 90 x miles from Clifden to Athlone (via Galway & Athenry!). Day 2 = 90 miles Athlone to Dublin and I've promised to join them.

Great article and very proud of all the boys.

Thanks, yes all did brilliantly!

Thank you so much for sharing this. What a terrific thing for them all to do in support of Lorraine. Really sorry to hear about her relapse. I've got everything crossed that the treatment is a success and she returns to a stage of remission soon.

I love the fact that the team are already planning the next ride - you're a brave man to be joining them. Good luck with all the training and thanks as always for all your incredble support.

Hi Andy,

Yes an amazing effort. Thank you that is much appreciated.

It won't be easy but I am looking forward to it, I bought a bike last weekend and went on my first ride, 20 miles at an average of 13 mph which I'm told isn't bad as it's 25 years since I've been on a bike!

I'll be posting all news and updates on next years ride on our local branch page if you want to keep tabs:
