Thousands of fans sign up to take part in My Peak Challenge in support of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Sam's chosen charity.

Scottish actor Sam Heughan, star of hit period drama Outlander, has helped to raise over £21,000 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research after almost 1500 fans signed up to take part in his My Peak Challenge campaign.

The 34-year-old Hollywood actor teamed up with Fight Camp Glasgow’s John Valbonesi and Bear Strength Clothing to create the campaign. Whether it is taking a flight of stairs, climbing a hill, cycling around town or a run in the park, individuals from all walks of life are encouraged to set their own challenge and achieve a personal goal - no matter how big or small - and raise money for the charity which Sam has supported for a number of years.

£5 from every My Peak Challenge welcome pack sold is donated to the charity – one of the Sunday Mail Centenary Fund causes. Since the campaign launch on New Year’s Eve 2014, over £7,000 has been raised through pack sales and a further £14,000 donated via the My Peak Challenge Justgiving page.

Ahead of the official My Peak Challenge Weekend on 14 and 15 March - when participants are encouraged to carry out the challenge they have been training for - Sam is encouraging fans to take to Twitter and post their personal #PeakPledge. Whether it be a mental goal or active challenge, Heughan and the team are calling for participants to share their stories, inspirations and the personal targets they will be setting to raise money.

Sam, whose personal #PeakPledge is to run the LA Marathon as part of the My Peak Challenge campaign, says: “I had this idea while working in Scotland and went to John for help. I love walking, climbing and being outdoors and I wanted to share that passion with all the friends and fans.

“We have to battle cancer. Many of my close family and friends have fought their own cancer battle. We need to support their cause in any way we can. Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research are doing this through research, patient information and clinical trials. They are a caring, diligent charity which I am proud to be part of.

"There'll be even more surprises in the future but for now I challenge you to make the first step with us and sign up today!”

Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, says: “This motivational campaign really has captured the imagination of Sam’s many fans and we are incredibly grateful to everyone involved for their dedication to raise funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Every penny raised helps us in our mission to beat blood cancer, improve the lives of all those affected, and stop people from dying. We wish all those taking part in My Peak Challenge the best of luck in achieving their Peak Pledge.”

The welcome pack is priced at £30 and includes a limited edition My Peak Challenge Bear Strength T-Shirt, Sam Heughan My Peak Challenge A5 print, limited edition My Peak Challenge wristband and sticker, a one-off bounce-back voucher and instructions on how to take part.

On behalf of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, thank you so much to all of Heughan’s Heughligans and everyone taking part in My Peak Challenge, for your ongoing support and fundraising. The camaraderie and team spirit of the Heughligan community is truly inspiring, and is taking us that bit closer to beating blood cancer. Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is proud to be so closely linked with Sam, but due to the high volume of requests we receive, unfortunately we are not able to pass individual requests on to Sam himself. However, if you’d like more information on how we can support you with your fundraising please email us.

Somehow I think that I've got to get involved with this if for no other reason than as a thank you to Sam and his army of Heughligan supporters! It's also an amazing idea!!! I can use it as the shake me up I need to crack on with my 30 before 30 challenges!
