On a hot sunny Sunday in July last year a group of dedicated cyclists gave up their time to take part in a 12 hours Spinathon. Aiming to raise vital funds for Bloodwise

On Sunday 9th July 2017 our local spinning club held a 12 hour spin challenge raising a fantastic £2296.58 to help beat blood cancer. Sara Richards, the founder of Pedal Power, pulled together a fantastic event. Over 50 cyclists took part…some total beginners, some regulars to the Pedal Power Spin Club and some from local cycling groups. The support from everyone who was involved and who took part was phenomenal and heartwarming.

“What an amazing day we had, with the help of my 4 other instructors we cycled for 12 hours, having lots of fun, sweat and hard work along the way! The Pedal Power Spinathon is now in its 3rd Year of raising money for various charities close to our hearts. We chose to support Bloodwise with Anna in mind as a friend and inspirational lady who is passionate about her work for the blood cancer charity” Sara Richards – Founder of Pedal Power

As well as the spinning some kind bakers provided some delicious homemade cakes, granola and energy bars. They went down very well with people generously giving donations, £165 was raised by the stall.

Massages were given to participants by Julia Matthews of who gave them in exchange for a donation raising a fantastic £135. She also took part in the spinning herself! Julia said “What an amazing day massaging at the Pedal Power Spinathon for Bloodwise, thank you to Sara Richards for organising it. Met the inspirational Anna Mamwell.”

“I feel so honoured and touched that Pedal Power have chosen to support both me and Bloodwise this year. It was a great day with a great atmosphere, I cannot thank everyone enough for giving up their spare time on a hot Sunday to help raise funds to beat blood cancer, I hope they know how much it means to me and others like me. The ongoing support we’ve had from our friends is amazing and has played an important part of us putting our lives back together since my diagnosis.” Anna Mamwell

Each entrant pre-booked their slot at £5 per half an hour; Sara had serious difficulty fitting everyone in due to the massive support for the event. She was very well organised with a spreadsheet of names, slots and her trusty highlighter pen. This is not only testament to how well thought of Sara and the Spin Club is but also the wonderful people in and around our local town.

Sara was supported by other qualified fitness instructors, Zoe Hicks, Lindy Jaines and Lizzie Corbett who were more than happy to be involved.

"The venue helped make the day even more successful, many of the spinners were joined by their families which I loved because events like this are also about making memories and spending precious time with each other," Anna Mamwell

"Sara has been a friend of mine for over 10 years and her partner Paul Tipper friends with my husband for many more. They have supported us in various ways over the past three year since my diagnosis and it's having people like this around us that has made this journey easier to travel. As well as holding this event Sara has also helped me build my body back up again after it was left incredibly weak by the intense, high dose chemotherapy I needed to get into remission and months of being bedridden in hospital. Sara's support has been priceless." Anna Mamwell
