Penrith Golf Club have been raising funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research throughout 2014, and this week Club Captain Phil Park, MBE and Lady Captain Chris West presented the charity with a cheque for £5,000!

Dave Stones (pictured above left) from our South Lakes Fundraising Group attended the presentation and collected the brilliant cheque from the Club's various fundraising activities.

Phil's support for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is a personal one, as his daughter in law Alison is currently being treated for leukaemia. Donations were also made from the Club to The Sunbeams Music Trust, The Poppy Appeal and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Many thanks to Phil, Chris and everyone at Penrith Golf Club for this wonderful support to beat blood cancer!

Very proud of and grateful to my father in law Phil who has supported me since April 2013 when I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. I had a transplant in Septemer 2013 under the fabulous care of the staff at the Northern Cancer Care Centre unit at the Freeman Hospital . I have now been in remission for over a year and doing well. Every penny of this money is so valuable to people like me who may not have survived if it were not for the amazing research being undertaken with the help of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. Thank you to all at Penrith Golf Club for your generosity!

Fantastic achievement from all concerned. As a blood cancer survivor myself I cannot thank the club enough for all their support as it's thanks to people like them that I've been given a second chance at life. Wishing Phil's daugther-in-law all the best in her treatment for leukaemia too.

Hi Alison,

Absolutely wonderful to hear that you're doing so well after your transplant - long may that continue to be the case! I had a bone marrow transplant, too, for CML and am still going strong 10 years on. Positive stories like yours are really inspirational. With that in mind, would you be interested in writing a blog for us about your experiences? Here's the link if you're interested: http://leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk/patient-support/chronicle-your-j...

All the best in the future and thanks so much for all your support - together we will beat blood cancer!
