In 1985 Ross Lindley, then nine-years-old, met Sir Ian Botham during his first ever charity walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

Ross was in the final year of a three-year treatment course for leukaemia.

Despite his illness, Ross ended up joining Sir Ian to walk an incredible 102 miles with him to Land’s End – part of the way on his shoulders!

Fortunately Ross made it through his treatment and was completely cured. In 2010, a 33-year-old Ross once again walked with Sir Ian on ‘Beefy’s Great Forget Me Not Walk’ for all ten days, to help him celebrate the 25th anniversary of his first walk.

Ross says:  “I was diagnosed when I was six and at the time the survival rate for leukaemia in children was still very low. I was definitely one of the 'lucky ones' as there were so many that did not make it.”
