Last year along with many other branches and groups across the UK, Bristol branch took to the high street to collect and raise awareness of our charity.
Buckets at the ready and donned in our red shirts we took up position in Broadmead and spent the day collecting, connecting with people and letting everyone know who we are. It was a fantastic day and we were all amazed by the generosity!
For 2014 we have ramped up the challenge. As Small Change Big Impact now runs across a whole week, we are making the most of it and on 13 September a group completely mad cyclists will be hopping on bikes and cycling for 8 hours straight at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway, while our fabulous volunteers collect. It's the perfect time to let so many people know who we are and realise that there is a charity out there who are doing everything they can to 'beat blood cancer'.
I am always amazed by people's stories and lately they are changing for the positive. So many tell me, my sister, my husband, my little girl, myself have had blood cancer and come out the other side. It's fabulous to hear but still having to remember, that although we are making massive advances due to technology speeding everything up, we still need to help those that aren't so lucky, hence ''We won't stop until we have beaten blood cancer!'
If that wasn't enough, also a week later on the 21 September, Bristol branch are running the Martin Dean Bristol Bikeathon. With a new venue, improved routes and signage (provided by Giant), we are looking forward to waving off our cyclists who are all riding for so many different reasons. Once they have gone, The Willow Brook Centre have lent us the town square for a family day, so there will be face painting, a bouncy castle, outdoor games and stalls a plenty, to keep everyone entertained!
If anyone in the Bristol area would like to run their own event in Small Change Big Impact week it would be fantastic to hear from you! Whether it is a cake sale, a sponsored event, organising a dress down day etc, we can help. As the campaign clearly states, small change when collected together can make a massive impact!
