I will try to keep a few posts on here over the next few weeks but can't promise I will keep it up for the whole time.
Firstly I'd like to thank the keen people who have already decided they don't want me to pester them and have already sponsored me, hopefully there will be many more to follow!
I'd like to give a bit of background about why I chose to do this. For years I have attempted to maintain the appearance that I live a reasonably fit and healthy lifestyle. My diet isn't too bad and I walk my dog, Paddy, on a daily basis. However as he gets older the walks have started to shorten. I have tried to keep fit by doing other things but find the gym dull and often give up after only a few weeks. To try to motivate me I decided to set myself a challenge and as I've always enjoyed riding a bike I felt a sponsored bike ride was better than a run or a swim. Which brought me to this challenge.
I've chosen the 52 mile ride as I an push myself to finish in a good time and not aim to just finish. All being well, I may be back again next year and who knows I may even attempt the 100 mile course!!
So the training has started now. I've done a couple of rides in the gym on a Wattbike, which is a super high tech road bike simulator. I've done a couple of hour long rides on it and will be building this up. I am also aiming for some road practices so I can get used to being out in the elements and on the open road!
Thanks again for reading, sponsoring and supporting me!
