For little Ben Hooper...

As most of my friends will know my name is Simon and I’ve been happily married to Karen for almost 30 years. During this time we have been very fortunate to have 2 healthy grown up sons (Matt & Jon) who we are extremely proud of (& their beautiful partners!:)

A lot of you perhaps may not know that our little nephew Ben Hooper was diagnosed with a brain tumour shortly after his birth, which came as quite a shock to all of our family. As a result Ben is blind and has spent most of his life to date in and out of Birmingham Children’s Hospital undergoing chemotherapy & other treatments.

After almost 3 years Ben had been making a good recovery and his mom and dad (Claire & Phil) and his sisters (Sophie and Amy) were looking forward to settling down to everyday life after Ben had successfully completed his course of treatment.

However after a few short months the tumour returned and in March 2014 Ben, now 3 ½, was rushed back to the Children’s Hospital for an 11-hour operation to remove part of the tumour.  From talking with Ben’s dad it was touch and go at times, but Ben is a real fighter and he is now recovering from the trauma. Fingers crossed, as I write and after 3 weeks of intensive care Phil and Claire hope Ben will be allowed home to continue his treatment in the coming 1-2 weeks.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ben for a full recovery and his mom, dad and two beautiful sisters at this difficult time.

I cant imagine the pain and heartache Ben, Claire, Phil, Sophie and Amy have experienced and continue to go through, however I hope that I can play some small part in helping to beat the pain and misery caused by blood cancers and that’s why I’ve decided to raise finds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

If you fancy a spot of exercise feel free to join me at the London Bikeathon on the 31st August 2104, or I would ask you to please sponsor me for whatever amount you can afford, as ALL donations will be gratefully accepted and 100% goes direct to the Charity.

Thank you so very much!
