15 year old Sophia Flanagan wanted to do something in memory of her grandparents.
The reason for this is two and half years ago, Sophia lost her Pops (Grandad) to multiple myeloma and several months ago her Nana lost her battle with leukaemia. February 10th would have been her Nana's 69th birthday and to commemorate this, Sophia came up with the idea to do something on this weekend to remember both her grandparents and help raise money towards research to beat blood cancer.
On the morning of Saturday 9th February, Sophia and her Dad Sean will undertake a 20 mile sponsored cycle ride around Burnley, setting off from their home and cycling through parts of Burnley and Padiham. Look out for them in their red Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research t-shirts pedalling around Burnley. Sophia’s Mum Lisa has let us know they are likely to have red faces to match their t-shirts, due to being non cyclists!
On Sunday 10th February from 1pm , Sophia has organised a music event at Haslingden Cricket Club. It will be an afternoon of music; several friends and local teenage bands, with Sophia, will all spend their Sunday afternoon “jamming”. Sophia is a pupil at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School in Waterfoot, Lancashire and Sophia’s classmates are supporting this fundraising event.
Tickets are £3.00 and all money will go to the charity. For tickets and for more information about the event please contact Sophia on 07581 314 329.
Lisa has let us know “I would like to say a big thanks to Dave at Haslingden Cricket Club for letting Sophia host the event at the club and for not charging a hire fee. Thanks also to Paul and Pete at the music shop in Burnley ‘Pro Solo’ for the loan of music equipment.”
The family have set up a JustGiving page as part of this fundraising which has already raised over £100, and you can donate towards their fundraising at www.justgiving.com/Sean-Flanagan1.
